Plenty of companies here only want full replacements. That leaves homeowners with a real but limited problem stuck on a wait list.
The question is not whether a repair is possible. It nearly always is. The question is what you get for the money.
We use a simple test. If the roof has more than five years of realistic life left, the damage is localized, and the deck is sound — repair. If the shingles are brittle enough that a repair cracks the ones around it, if you have had three or more leaks in two years, or if the ventilation was wrong from day one and the whole field has aged early — you are funding a replacement in installments.

Small repairs are priced by the visit and the material. A pipe boot replacement is at the low end; a chimney flashing rebuild with new counterflashing cut into the mortar is at the high end. We quote firm before we start — no time-and-materials surprises.
We credit the cost of a recent repair toward a full replacement if the roof turns out to be beyond saving within the following twelve months. You should not pay twice because a diagnosis was optimistic.
A walkable 4/12 over a driveway is a different job from a 12/12 slate hip requiring roof jacks and fall protection staging.
Replacing shingles is cheap. Rebuilding metal flashing into masonry is skilled labor and costs accordingly.
